At the end of the 80’s Piero Peppucci and Luisa Giontella were in search of a country property. A place out of their native town Todi where they could raise their children. The abandoned monastery of S.Antimo looked like the perfect place.
Today their son Filippo Peppucci runs the Estate with passion and innovation. The wines are an authentic expression of the land. Using native varietals that include both Grechetto di Todi DOC and Sagrantino with a selection of red international varietals.
It is always a memorable visit when you get to meet the winemaker at his winery. Filippo is a gracious host filled with knowledge. The tour begins overlooking his exceptional estate with 13 hectares of vineyards. Fillippo designs his own wine labels.
The estate leads the way in relaunching Grechetto di Todi. Having replanted only Grechetto di Todi as the Estates white varietal. Fillippo was convinced it was possible to elevate the cultivar. Together with wine maker Lorenzo Landi. The Estate produces two exceptional 100% Grechetto di Todi wines Montorsolo Grechetto di Todi DOC and 'I Rovi' Grechetto di Todi Superiore DOC. From 2014 'I Rovi' comes from a selection of the best cru Grechetto di Todi.
Red varietals include Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. 'Petroro 4' is an elevant Umbria Rosso IGT made with Sangiovese. Refined in Stainless Steel Tanks. A brilliant ruby red with fragrant notes of forrest fruits. l'Altro io includes the native varietal Sagrantino that is typically harvested in the first months of October. It is refined in French Oak for 18 months followed by 12 months in the bottle.
'Giovanni' is named after Fillippo's first born expresses the quality of estates Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the 'Vigna dei Sassi' that translates to the 'vines on the rocks'. A production that is limited to only 5000 bottles. Depending on the year Cabernet Sauvignon is combined with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Altro Io Passito with only 500 bottles each vintage. This dessert wine that as Fillippo explains can even be enjoyed with savory or a refined cheese charcuterie pays homage to the origins of the Sagrantino Grape. A late harvest dryed on cane mats to allow for a high concentration of sugar.
It so happens that Fillippo Peppucci grew up with Luca Baccarelli. Luca is owner of Roccafiore. A Sustainable Wine Resort. The Baccarelli Family have created more than a beautiful boutique resort. They have created a story of love, tradition and respect for their land. With 15 hectares of vineyards. Grape varietals include Grechetto di Todi, Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Montepulciano along with international varietals Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
One of the first wineries in Italy to adopt solar power that saves 90,000kg of CO2 per year in emissions. You can visit the Cantina to enjoy a tasting that also includes estates Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The Wine Resort and Hotel has 13 guest rooms. The swimming pool and gardens look over the medieval hill town of Todi. The resort and cellars were designed by Lucina Caravaggi, Giorgio Cresciani with Francesco Cerroni.
